Kidkanai Case Study

Check out the official case study on Kidkanai and Nexgen’s collaboration on sustainable hangers!

Kidkanai is a new preloved children’s concept store that was launched at the end of 2022 by one of the leading French retailers, Kiabi. Based in Leers near Lille in France, it offers a unique shopping experience to parents who want to shop responsibly.

It sources preloved, high quality children’s clothing and accessories, ensuring they find a new home, rather than ending up in landfill. However, the challenge for the store was finding the right hangers that would align with their eco-friendly vision.

Nexgen Packaging, a global supplier of packaging solutions for retail, apparel and footwear acquired Ditto Hanging Solutions in 2021. The acquisition combined Dittos’ extensive design engineering expertise with Nexgens’ manufacturing infrastructure and global presence to become the world leader in paper fiberboard hangers.

Nexgen have been working with Kiabi to help them achieve their goal of the removal of single use plastic hangers and they invited us to support their new Kidkanai venture too.

The Challenge:
Kidkanai wanted to find a solution for their hangers that was reusable and 100% plastic free. Plastic hangers are commonly used in retail stores and are often considered a necessity. However, these hangers are made from non-biodegradable materials, many of which eventually can end up in landfills and contribute to environmental pollution.

The team at Kidkanai wanted to find an eco-friendly alternative, but they needed a hanger that was strong, durable and affordable.

The Solution:
Nexgen offered a 100% recycled FSC™ paper fiberboard solution that was fit for the usage and environment required by Kidkanai whilst achieving their hanger investment budget.

Our expert design team optimized the specification of 7 different hanger styles to ensure that the design and board thickness were suitable to be reused in store. 100% of hangers procured by Kidkanai are plastic free ensuring not one single use plastic hanger is in sight within their new store.

Gemma Ward, Sales & Marketing Director, and Claire MacIntyre, Creative & Product Manager, visited the Kidkanai store to support the staff with hanging garments and to help them to prepare for their open day.

Results:
We are pleased to announce that the Ditto paper fiberboard hangers that we engineered and supplied to Kidkanai have received excellent feedback from customers and staff. They have proven to be a fitting addition to the new sustainable preloved concept store. The Nexgen team have been into the store recently to review the quality of the hangers and we are happy to report that after 4 months of continuous use there are no signs of failure and no damages have been reported by the Kidkanai store staff.

This is a testament to the quality and expert engineering of our products and we are confident that our paper hangers will continue to serve Kidkanai and their customers for many months, even years to come.

Conclusion:
The collaboration between Nexgen Packaging and Kidkanai is a perfect match for sustainable fashion. The use of FSC™ 100% recycled paper fiberboard hangers is an eco-friendly alternative to single use plastic hangers, ensuring that the fashion industry continues to move towards sustainability.

With Nexgens’ extensive catalogue of over 100 tried and tested hanger designs and expert custom design engineering, retailers like Kidkanai can reduce their footprint and contribute to a cleaner, greener planet.
